When I was in high school my Mom and I were out and about running errands. As we pulled onto an area highway, we were treated to quite the scene. The first thing we saw was a 20 foot streak of fiberglass in the right hand lane, wider than the lane itself. Resting at the end of the fiberglass streak was something that looked a lot like a 50 foot luxury yacht.
A few feet further down the road was a large truck with an empty trailer.
Needless to say, while it was sad for the fate of the boat, we found this scene hilarious. Clearly the means of attaching the boat to the trailer had failed and the boat let go on the highway as the truck was ambling ahead at full speed. We often bring up just how amusing and crazy the situation was, and how we really hoped that their insurance policy covered stupidity or total ”attachment doohickey” failure. We felt very secure in the fact that it was the oddest scene we’d ever see on that stretch of road.
That was, until Mom was running some errands this week in that neck of the woods and saw a major slow down on the opposite side of the road. She began to slow down as she was unsure of what was going on and she noticed two police cars on the side of the road. As she got closer she saw an animal control truck. As she got really close she saw four (large) police officers running around with nets & lassos and two (larger) animal control officers doing the same.
And then she saw the emu, running for dear life.
So help us out here. Which wins the award for Craziest Scene Ever in Semi-Rural Utah?

Wow. An EMU? That is pretty freaky if you ask me! The coolest animal I’ve seen while driving was an elk. The scariest? A wolf. But those were wild and native to the U.S. Unlike an emu.
How odd!

why would someone be transporting an emu??
when i was a kid, we were driving from CA to AZ. at some point in AZ, we were driving on a long stretch of road in the middle of nowhere when suddenly there is a massive explosion behind us. a truck driver carrying cat food had lost control and hit a rock, and the cat food somehow ignited into a massive explosion. who would have known that stuff is explosive?!

Didn’t happen to me, but I remember a train incident in the 90′s. A train carrying corn derailed somewhere near Yellowstone. It was taken care of, but a huge pile of corn was left behind. Then the bears found it. But over time, corn becomes…you guessed it, alcohol. A friend of a friend, an engineer on a train, said that trains going through yellowstone were warned to slow wayyy down in this area because of all the drunk bears. And when he went through, he said it was the most surreal sight of watching about 5 or 6 giants walking around reeling or sitting, eating fermented corn, and looking like they should be in a bar. He claims (though no proof) that at least two of them, while sitting on the ground, waved at the train.
