Blogger’s Block

I’ve been struck lately by a horrible case of writer’s block, in which nothing remotely interesting has happened and I don’t think you’d like to read about any of the following:

- RB’s frequent trash raids & our attempts to stop him from eating tissues (luckily for us all he shuns the Qtips).

- The fact that about half of a sorority rush song has been stuck in my head for days on end, and I can’t remember the other half or get the damn thing out of my head…trust me, you don’t want Kappa Cabana rolling around in there either.

- The Laundry Incident of 2010 in which I ruined 3/4 of a load of wash. The 3/4 of clothes that were ruined were my work clothes and favorite tank tops, the 1/4 that were saved were a few of B’s undershirts that I buy for $20 for 5 at Target. BECAUSE THAT SEEMS FAIR. And while I truly appreciate every one’s home-remedies, unless you have a remedy that is specifically labeled “FOR CLOTHES THAT ARE FUBAR – WITH INK & LEATHER STAIN” it isn’t going to work. Mostly because, I tried man. I tried.

- I’m still trying to convince B that his wallet is still! totally! functional! I could use some help in this department as the wallet is still squished under a full gin bottle, being “flattened”. Say it with me “Every wallet deserves a chance to swim in the washing machine.”

- RB learned to play tug of war:

 RB

He lost every round convincingly.

- I cut seven inches of hair off & had it highlighted back to its glory shade and only one of my coworkers even noticed. Talk about a let-down. In other news, I think I used to twiddle my hair a lot, a fact that is now becoming apparent as I twiddle with the air where my hair used to be.

-I have been to a grand total of two baby showers in my whole life, and this year I was a little excited as two close friends are having babies (a total of three wee ones!) and I was looking forward to celebrating with them. Imagine my dismay upon discovering that their baby showers are the exact same day at the exact same time. Totally not fair. (Shakes fist at sky.)

So, in an effort to provide me with blog fodder for the universe, please let me know if you have any questions, writing prompts or general laughter & frivolity to share with the masses.

Cliche Perhaps…

…But I think back to my wedding day & I get smiley & happy- thinking about the people, the music, the Spanish moss, my wonderful husband, the insufferable heat wave. All of it, rolled into one delicious moment of soft lighting & my dress swishing around and the happiness, so intense, my cheekbones hurt the next day from smiling so much.

B

We’ve been married for almost six months- half a year- and the time flies by. B went out of town last weekend & I missed him so very much, especially each night as I crawled into bed. There was no warm leg to stick my freezing cold feet up against and the dog was highly unappreciative of my attempts to use him as a living pair of socks. While I enjoyed the first bit, parading around in old sorority shirts and college sweat pants while rocking a sideways ponytail & my bright green fruit-acid-face-mask (what?)I eventually realized I’d rather wear normal clothes & have slighltly less radiant skin if it meant my sunscreen & salt water smelling Hubs would come home soon, depositing a suitcase of filthy sailing clothes in front of the washer & leaving his ties absent-mindedly over my dining room chairs.

Of Books & Sunshine

Getting married in Savannah was a fantastic destination experience for me & B and our families. Many people asked why we chose Savannah and the short answer is that my Grandparents live there & for us, it fit. The longer answer is that we moved around growing up – a lot- and never had a home church or really a home town. My Dad didn’t grow up in Savannah, but his parents were both from Atlanta and after the boys moved out of the house they sold their house in Los Angeles and made the trek back to their home state, settling on a historic home on a square in Savannah. Our family reunions were always a few hours away on St. Simons Island and thus, we all got to know Savannah like the back of hands. I knew I was getting married in the South, and frankly, Savannah had what we wanted – a beautiful church, the perfect intimate reception venue & plenty of charm and fun for our guests who would be traveling no matter what – our friends & family are scattered far & wide and there really was no “home base” for us to choose from.

Recently one of my long-time blog readers sent me a copy of a travel book on – you guessed it, Savannah- that her friend wrote. It is a perfectly perfect book and captures what I love about Savannah between its covers. It recommends everything I would recommend & then some, the illustrations give you a peek at the charm of the great city & it truly is an insider’s guide to the city.

So if you find yourself thinking about going to Savannah & wishing there was a perfect travel guide to assist you, I highly recommend this gem. Please contact me if you are interested in purchasing it- I can put you in touch with Meredith- and as soon as her website is up & running (with ordering options) I’ll pass it along!

In other blog-news, I was very graciously given a blog award by one of my favorite bloggers, Colby.

  • Daisy @ Daisy, JD (Just Daisy)she likes wine, and typically that would be enough to bond us (I’m easy like that), but after finding her blog, we came to find out we had an actual, in-real-life connection. It’s a small world and I think probably better because she blogs in it.
  • Of course she then went on to bestow the award on some of the individuals I’d like to hand it to, thus ruining the experience for me. Wait. I kid, I kid. Anyway, the “rules” of the award goes as follows:

    1. put the logo on your blog or within your post
    2. pass the award on to twelve bloggers link the nominees within your post
    3. let the nominees know they have received this award by commenting on their blog
Share the love and link to the person from whom you received this award.

Much like picking teams for dodge ball, I’m going to just pick the people that I find scrappy, lovely, inspiring, funny, or whatever else it is that I enjoy. In no particular order:

The Namby Pamby for making me laugh on a daily basis, be it through his blog or his g-chat messages.

J’Lynnfor being an incredibly insightful, thoughtful reader who has her own little corner of the internet. J’Lynn your comments are always noticed & appreciated -thanks for making this so fun.

Legally Fabulous for being a breath of fresh air in the world of stale, grouchy lawyers & law students. Even if she always stands me up.

Law School Wife for representing the Significant Other’s that make it possible for the married lawyers & law students of the world.

The Preppy Princess for being such a wonderful, cheerful internet & real life friend who is always thinking of others in every decision she makes. I like to think if we lived closer she’d pop over for a glass of wine or a cup of tea & perhaps, if I was very nice, she’d let me puppy-sit Tilly her adorable bulldog.

It isn’t 12 but, the truth of the matter is there are many blogs deserving of this award- just check out my links for others who inspire me, make me laugh and wish that I had a living room big enough for cocktails for 100.
